Skevella

Bruce and I were out all day, but when we returned Gail and Jean told us that Skev stopped by (surprised?) with big news. He won an all-expenses-paid trip to Coachella! Skev, if you need someone to go with, I can free up some time in my busy schedule... I like Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend, Thom Yorke and Faith No More!

A Lynch Park abutter visited the office yesterday for the first time in the 40 years she's lived on the border of this beautiful place! She was upset about the amount of debris left behind from snow disposal. But she was able to give an update on the massive green mansion still under construction in her backyard. Stickers have been peeled off windows and it appears finish work is being done inside. Maybe we will meet our new neighbors this summer?

I am sure there will be more to report after the BHS Sports Hall of Fame banquet tomorrow night. No more today loyal Recs.

Gaga, oh la la…

Jillian Bourgeois visited today! She was picking up a recommendation because she is in Bevtown and is looking for a summer job. Since leaving the Rec, she has been attending grad school in Amherst. Randomly, Jill missed an opportunity to visit our good friend Adam Szajgin in L.A. and her sister’s current work/life situation could inspire the next hit reality show, “Laid Off & Pregnant”.

If you know anything about our summer staff, you won't be surprised that they never stop thinking about the Lip Sync contest. I’ve already had a request for a Lady Gaga medley!

Tim came in today and so did Mike Andruskiewicz...

The Skev Report - Skev made a beeline to the hand sanitizer and then told us about the latest episode of South Park and how his work smells nasty after being flooded. His sister was in town last week and forced him to cook freshly ground burgers for she and her friends. He also made a baked ziti with meatballs which he didn’t really bake. He got Marco Polo from a Chinese restaurant which he was planning to eat the leftovers of for lunch today. Thank God he didn’t eat it in the office, I would have yakked. Did you know that Skev is a Gemini? He also made a point of telling us that most Endicott students come from a Mommy and a Daddy, and they make him feel that he’s too old for Beverly bars. Old at 22? Skev has tickets to a lacrosse game at Gillette and he’s looking for someone to go with… any takers?

Reminder: BHS Sports Hall of Fame banquet is Saturday! Skev isn’t going, but it's still going to be fun, so come and support Bruce!

Playing Catch-Up

The Skev Report – Last week Skev reported there was chaos with his friends. He tried to explain, but it was way too complicated. His parents were away, so he took the opportunity to eat, drink, be merry, and wear a green wig. Rumor has it he traded that wig for a hoppy beverage at the Pickled Onion, then tried to get it back later in the night. Skev-a-reeno is our office’s Rob Schneider, making copies… He suggested that I start watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, but was quick to point out that he is not a woman trapped in a man’s body. Skev got his usual haircut, the “George Clooney – Roman”. We did a quick image search and lo and behold… twins!

We had an unexpected and awesome visit from Kris Melanson yesterday. Interesting news about Hannah, we'll keep a close eye.

This weekend is the BHS Sports Hall of Fame banquet, at which Bruce will be honored! We want a BIG cheering section, so go to Todd’s Sporting Goods and get your tickets today!

Planning interviews now, schedule should be out soon. We have been shifting current employees across programs and developing a strong staff for summer 2010. We can’t wait!

I had a great meeting with Bill last week to discuss CIT 2010 stuff! Get those applications in, folks!

No Excuse, Just Produce

The Skev Report – Skev visited multiple times last week. He went on a shopping spree, buying blue and tan pairs of Converse sneakers from the Gap and shades from The Rack. His team took second place in trivia and would have captured first place if it weren’t for the treacherous final question. "What was Steve Martin’s first movie role?" Do YOU know? On Friday Skev modeled his new duds (fab AND functional) and chat about possible summer socials. He recommends the brunch buffet at The Ship on Rte 1. It’s $25, but it's huge. Skev was also kind enough to share a photo, back when he was in “football shape” on an 80s tribute day at BHS. Looking good, Skev Brady!

Today is Gail’s birthday! How cool is it to be born on the ides of March? Jean picked up the gifts, a hand blender, wine, glasses, appetizer plate and stationary. She also baked a delicious cake, which there is more of, so come down and indulge! Josh came in to party with us, but no Skev since his basement flooded and he is in charge of the sump pump. He may even miss work to tend to the water, which Josh thinks won't fly with his boss, who he says has a “no excuse, just produce” attitude.

Josh said he had an “interesting” weekend with Miss Molly, eating at the Texas Road House, painting a majestic eagle at Plaster Fun Time and finishing her drinks while Irish barhopping. He saw Skev acting as a friend’s wingman, helping him reunite with a former flame.

Tuesday on Thursday

Written Tuesday (3/9) and posted Thursday (3/11)...

Monday was warm and sunny, maybe that's why Skev, Josh, Tim and Sam all visited! Skev came by first wearing his new, maroon and blue Villanova hat and matching shirts. He noted that kids these days are stylish and if he could wear what Stella wears (a dress, jeans and mini workboots), that would be cool. Skev-a-roni is also a baby-face once again. Tim and Sam came by a few hours later to settle the medical bills resulting from 2009’s nasty playground injury at Obear.

Dennis, the IT guy came in and fixed a plethora of issues we were having. My new laptop works now and it’s awesome.

Stella has been in the office almost all day today (Tuesday)… it’s 4:05pm now and I have almost had it. If it weren’t for Gail, Jean and Bruce’s help, I would be pulling my hair out from all the Spongebob, potty time, constant chatter, crumbs… why did I promise to take her to the structure after work? I need a nap, dude!

I drove into Lynch this morning, only to find the access road blocked by a huge tree service truck. I parked in the main lot and walked up to a shocking sight… the ACME Jr. tree was cut down! All that’s left is a stump! Bruce came in 20 minutes later reporting that the Adventure Camp tree had also been razed! Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes! Hopefully new trees will be planted in their place.

Friday

Jean made a low-calorie apple pie yesterday! She filled one pie crust with a mixture of Cortland apples, ¼ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup white sugar, flour, lemon juice and butter. Bake it and eat it and it’s awesome. Gail ate delicious pierogies and eggs last night.

Employment contracts and applications came flying in today. We’re in good shape! If you're an employee who has not turned in your contract or contacted me, please do so, ASAP! If you're a prospective employee who has not turned in your application, it will be marked late and we cannot guarantee an interview, but you still may apply.

Skev came in and visited, and we were right, the surprise was facial hair! He asked not to appear too heavily in the blog today, so that’s all we have to say about that.

Bad Weather Report

This week has brought a lot of bad weather, but that hasn’t stopped Stella from using the potty. She is very close, almost ready to be completely qualified to go to Tiny Tykes this summer!

Tim dropped off contracts and a medical bill for his injured hand yesterday. He grew a beard and moustache. D. Timothy Bunyan.

Josh stopped by today with Panera lunches of cheddar broccoli soup for he and Gail. While he was here, he got a call from one of his favorite Recs… no, not Molly Forman… Skev!

The Skev Report – We haven’t seen Skev yet this week, but we heard him, via Josh’s speakerphone. According to Josh’s cellie, Skev had a magical adventure with Master Kim last night and he is up $50 after a late night card game but could have won $800. He promises to visit the office tomorrow with a "surprise" and there is “plenty to go around”. Now we’re really curious, but I suspect it's a Fu Manchu. Josh may have convinced him to bring along treats from Dunks, as well. More on the Skevster after tomorrow’s visit.

Rainstorm 2010

Last week’s crazy rainstorm knocked out power here at Lynch. We weren’t able to get a lot done at the office without power or heat, but we did manage to get our muffins from Skev! Despite the fallen trees and blocked access road, Skev showed up to deliver the goods. He and Bruce ended up at Gail’s place in Ryal Side for brunch. I got my gingerbread muffin on Monday and it was still delicious.

The rain and wind blew one of the Carriage House windows in, ripped shingles off the roof of the office and produced a ton of debris to be dealt with by the DPW guys. The only damage inside was that our computers would not function properly. That is really not unlike any other day, despite all the help from our IT guys! Maybe our computers are starting to turn on us, Matrix style…

Jean made another stir fry dish yesterday, this time with beef and ginger. To make it, chop up red peppers, onions, broccoli, peapods and ginger. Marinate beef in soy sauce and more chopped ginger for 10 mins (she suggests buying beef that is cut for stir fry to save time). Stir fry the meat and veggies together and serve over brown rice. Voila, dinner!! Gail got a delicious-looking muffin from J&J’s (Corner Variety) for lunch and is considering Super Sub for dinner.
