“Why Stand When You Can Sit…”

Not too much to report since I was out of the office for most of the day, but here are some tasty morsels to tide you over until Monday afternoon…

Josh Melanson and Tim McAuliffe got to the office at the crack of dawn to deliver brochures. We appreciate the hustle on one of the coldest mornings in recent memory.

While discussing one of his ailments at morning meeting, Bruce quoted the great Frankie Marchelli (I don’t know who this is, BTW) by saying, “Why stand when you can sit, why sit when you can lie down?” Despite this good advice, Bruce has yet to be spotted napping on the couch in the Spirit Whisper room!

We heard through the grapevine that two of last summer’s ACME Jr. counselors are officially a couple… no names, to protect the innocent, but I will say that they were both rookies in 2009!

Bruce has prepared the 2010 staff salaries worksheet, which we will discuss next week and contracts will be sent out the week after. Questions? Concerns? Call, email or send me an FB message.

No recipe talk from Jean and Gail recently, but something is bound to come up over the weekend. We DID have really great muffins from Stop & Shop on Tuesday morning.

Recreation Commissioner, Kate Driscoll Derickson, gave birth to baby Wyatt around 7:30 this morning! Congratulations!

Potty Training Countdown

It just occurred to me that there are 151 days until the first day of camp (June 28).

That means that Stella has only 151 days to complete potty training and be eligible to go to Tiny Tykes! I don't know how we're going to do it, but my efforts to kick diapers and pull-ups are now strengthened... starting tomorrow.

Stella's Birthday

Beverly Recreation employee-in-training, Stella Kersker, turned 3 yesterday and it did not go unnoticed by the office staff. Gail, Jean and Bruce threw her a big party complete with cake, ice cream, presents, Josh Melanson and Mike Andruskiewicz (Skev). Stella woke up on the wrong side of the bed, so she wasn’t her usual, adorable self, but she tore through the multitude of presents, made a mess out of her chocolate cake, and walked around on all fours with Skev. Yeah, I forget exactly how it started, but somehow Skev ended up with Stella’s shoes on his hands, walking on all fours up and down the hallway. Stella thought it was hilarious, and so did the rest of us. Pictures to follow as soon as one of my computers is functional enough to process them (ongoing computer problems… more on that some other time).

In other news, we heart community service and donated a bunch of winter hats that Gail knitted to Beverly Bootstraps. Bruce brought them to a Gloucester Crossing community meeting along with 10 pizzas. At the end of the meeting 6 pizzas remained and Bruce set his sights on one. Kudos to Maria’s Pizza, because they were all scooped up before Bruce could say, “Hold the anchovies.” No leftovers for the Doigs!

Next time, Jean and Gail’s morning recipe conversations. Find out what they ate for dinner last night and how to make it! Ooooooooh!

So it begins...

We’ve commiserated for years in our Lynch Park office about the Rec life… the ups and the downs… and now we’ve decided it’s time to let everyone into our little world. To clarify, for those who are familiar with and maybe have been reported on in the summertime “Rec Rag”, this blog will not be exactly the same. We will mention the juicy tidbits of gossip generated by the summer staff, but it certainly won’t be our focus. Mainly we will be sharing the minutia of our daily activities at Beverly Recreation, including morning meetings, hilarious/depressing/puzzling customer interactions, projects we’re working on, etc. etc.
